Free Movies at Chatham Orpheum Theater

Chatham's Orpheum Theater shows free, family friendly movies every morning this month.

Doors to the theater open at 9 a.m. The show starts at 9:30 a.m.

Tickets are free, available at the box office the morning of the show. Seating is first come, first served.

Yarmouth Sand Sculpture Trail

When: Daily in August 2025

Where: Throughout the town of Yarmouth, MA

Follow the Sand Sculpture Trail to see the mind-blowing works of nationally renowned artist and sculptor, Sean Fitzpatrick!

This year, you'll find Sean's creative, amusing and totally family friendly sand sculptures in 33 different locations around the town of Yarmouth.

Carousel of Light

When: Daily in August 2025 (weather permitting) from 11 a.m. to dusk

Where: Mullen-Hall Elementary School, 130 Katharine Lee Bates Road, Falmouth

Admission: $4.00 per ride, 10-ride punch card is $25

This hand-carved, twirling work of art features 20 wooden horses and 2 wheelchair accessible chariots (including one called "Bubbles" that actually blows bubbles!), all decked out in a nautical flair. 

Come out for a ride on one of the most popular attractions in Falmouth - the Carousel of Light.

Cape Symphony Presents: "Summer Jazz"

When: Fridays in August, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Where: Devil's Purse Brewing Company, 120 Great Western Road, South Dennis MA

Monday Painters' Club Show & Sale

When: Mondays in August, (weather permitting), 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Where: Dennis Village Green, corner of Rt. 6A and Bass River Road, Dennis MA

Admission: Free

The Monday Painters Club display their works each Monday through Labor Day on the village green in Dennis.

Stop by to see a wide variety of art subjects in watercolors, acrylics, oils and pastels by the 18 member artists.

Original artworks, prints and cards are available for purchase.

A portion of the proceeds is given as an art scholarship to Dennis-Yarmouth High School. 

In case of rain on Monday, come by on Tuesday to see these lovely paintings ranging from ocean views, to florals and landscapes.

Arts Empowering Life: August Lineup

When: Throughout the month of August 2025

Where: Performing Arts Center in Brewster & Church of the Transfiguration in Orleans

This month’s lineup includes a joyful brass concert featuring works by Mozart, Bach, and more, performed in the incredible acoustics of the Church of the Transfiguration.

Also this month, an historical talk on the miraculous events surrounding the Battle of Brooklyn brings Revolutionary War history to life. And Elements Theatre Company presents Moon-Up, a haunting chamber drama set in a worn-down Kentucky cabin.

For something entirely different, the Juilliard Jazz Ensemble offers a dynamic evening of jazz originals and American Songbook favorites.

A Different Drummer Craft Fairs

When: August 2 & 3, 2025, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Woods Hole Film Festival

"Hookers Ball"

Held under a big white tent on at Harwich Community Center, this exceptional evening highlights fresh-from-the-boat seafood, a one-of-a-kind live auction and an extensive silent auction with items from the Cape's great businesses, artists and services.

Chatham Summer Craft Festival

When: August 2, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and August 3, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cape Cod Beach Bash

When: August 3, 2025 at 6:30 p.m.

Join "Social Life", the young adult ministry of Cape Cod Church, for an unforgettable night at their annual Beach Bash!

Enjoy a burger straight off the charcoal grill, and grab a mocktail from the sunset beach bar. Then compete for your chance to win the corn hole tourney!

The evening ends with summer night favorites: a bonfire, sparklers, and s'mores. Plus, keep your ears open for free merch giveaways throughout the night.

So bring your favorite beach chair and good vibes. Social Life will provide the rest!

Woods Hole Science Stroll

Where: Along Water Street in Woods Hole, MA

Come explore the world of science along Water Street in Woods Hole, and get close-up views of instruments and equipment used in current scientific research.

Talk with those doing the research and building the technology. See live animal exhibits, participate in hands-on activities and crafts, see demonstrations, tour a commercial scalloper and learn about cooperative research with the fishing industry.

Engage with staff from more than a dozen of the village’s marine science and educational organizations.

*Tip: Take the WHOOSH trolley from Falmouth to Woods Hole or ride your bike as parking is limited to metered street parking and some free parking in designated lots .

Harbor Light Illumination Concert & Market

When:  Aug 9, 16 and 23, 2025 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Where: Falmouth Harbor Band Shell, 180 Scranton Avenue, Falmouth MA

This popular summer concert series and night market features an evening filled with wonderful live music, artisan goods, crafts and food.

Open to everyone on a "pay-what-you-can" basis, donations support Harbor Light Illumination's ongoing arts and wellness initiatives for children, youth, and families in the community.

Wellfleet Shellfish Farm Tours

When: August 13, 14, 15, 23, 24, 25, and 27, 2025; times vary by tide stage

Looking for an extra-special experience? Sign up for one of Wellfleet Oyster Alliance's shellfish farm tours! 

During these fun and educational events, participants wade out to a working aquaculture site to see, first-hand, how shellfish are cultivated in our local waters.

These tours do sell out, so reserve your spot as soon as possible!

*Note: Access to some aquaculture farms requires a fair amount of walking on mucky and uneven sand.

Festival of the Arts in Chatham

When: August 15, 16 & 17, 2025

Festival of the Arts boasts 120 fine artisans and craftsmen presenting their original and handcrafted artwork, jewelry, fabric, pottery, fashion, wood, glass, metalwork and so much more

Along with showcasing high-end arts and crafts, the family-friendly festival features a children’s tent offering face painting and art activities for the kids.

Shuttle bus service and food trucks will be available, too.

Cape Cod Food Truck & Craft Beverage Festival

When: August 16, 2025, noon to 5 p.m. (VIP entry 11 a.m.)

Where: Cape Cod Fairgrounds, 1220 Nathan Ellis Hwy., East Falmouth MA

Spaceships & Robots: Cardboard Sculpture & Collage Workshop for Kids

When: August 16, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Come to this FREE workshop for kids with Artist-in-Residence, Lauren Lortie, at the Art Barn.

Using cardstock, tape, gems, and glue, kids will build space traveling vehicles and even alien visitors. What a fun way to open their imaginations to the idea of visitors from other planets as well as adventurers from earth going out to search for new worlds!

No experience is needed, and all materials are provided.

Provincetown "Carnival"

When: August 16 - 23, 2025

Now in its 47th year, this week-long celebration of LGBTQ+ life  attracts tens of thousands of guests from all over the world to enjoy parties, events, costume contests, and the wild and crazy  Carnival parade down Commercial Street.

This year's Carnival theme is "Summer Camp!". No doubt the festivities will be as big and boisterous as ever!

TIP: This is a super-popular event in Provincetown, and accommodations sell out early. If you're planning to be here for the festivities, book your lodging now!

Falmouth Walk

When:  August 16, 2025

Where: Downtown Falmouth (or virtually, if you choose, from wherever you are)

Entry Fee: $35 per participant; pre-registration required

The 34th Annual Falmouth Walk is set for August 16th.

The picturesque 5K (about 3.2 miles) course will once again flow through the charming streets of Falmouth along the bustling Falmouth Harbor and past the storefronts of Main Street to the finish at St. Barnabas Church by the Town Green.  

The entry fee for this event includes a Falmouth Walk tee shirt and official walk bib number. All profits from the Falmouth Walk benefit local charities.

Falmouth Road Race

When: August 17, 2025

Where: Throughout the town of Falmouth

The ASICS Falmouth Road Race is one of the most anticipated Cape Cod events each August. Over 10,000 runners from Cape Cod and around the world participate in the race each year. 

This year's race will again follow a beautiful 7-mile seaside course, with spectators lining the route to cheer the runners on. Whether you're running or spectating, this is a don't miss event!

Cape Cod Jewish Culture Festival

When: August 17, 2025,  2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Where: 745 West Main Street, Hyannis MA

Admission: $20 online, $25 at the door, $10 children under 12

Celebrate Jewish heritage through music, food, art, and family fun at the Cape Cod Jewish Culture Festival.

This event features a blend of old and new, from the joyful sounds of a live Klezmer band to a high-energy Jewish hip-hop concert.

There'll be authentic New York–style deli fare and exclusive kosher wines for sale, along with works by local Jewish artists and craft vendors. Kids will find plenty to keep them happy too, with inflatables, face painting, hands-on crafts, and more.

All are welcome.

Wellfleet Porchfest

When: August 23, 2025, 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Where: Multiple locations in Wellfleet Center, Wellfleet MA

Wellfleet PorchFest is celebrating its 10th year as the Outer Cape's premier free music festival.

The festival features more that 50 different bands on 27 different porches and front yards. Come on out for a celebration of "peace, love and music"! 

Stony Brook Grist Mill's "Cornbread Festival"

When: August 23, 2025, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Here's your chance to sample the yummiest corn bread, made by volunteers using Stony Brook Gristmill's stone-ground cornmeal. 

Serving starts at 10 a.m. and continues until all the corn bread has been gobbled up. Get there early so you don't miss out!

*Tip: Be sure to explore the museum upstairs and enjoy the scenic footpaths beside Stony Brook. 

Dennis Festival Days

When: August 24 to September 1, 2025

Where: Various venues in the town of Dennis

The ever-popular "Dennis Festival Days" kicks off on Sunday morning as the 67th Annual Antique Car Parade winds its way through all 7 villages in the town of Dennis.

Other festivities during the week include a Field Day at Johnny Kelley Recreation Area featuring a pie-eating contest, food trucks, DJ music, Fire Safety House, Touch a Truck, kickball games and more. 

And the party comes to a close on Sunday evening with the annual Beach Party, bonfire and fireworks at West Dennis Beach.

What a way to wrap up summer vacation season!
