Welcome to Spring on Cape Cod! In April, our local events calendar begins to wake up from its long winter's nap. (Yay!)

This month you'll find fun things to do all over the Cape, both indoors and out ... something for every member of the family. So come and enjoy!!

Cape Cod Herring Runs

When: Daily from mid-April to late May

Where: Multiple locations around the Cape

Fish ... running? Yes, indeed! And they climb ladders, too!!

We see these amazing feats every spring when thousands of herring migrate from the wide-open ocean to our local rivers, streams, lakes and ponds to spawn.

Sandwich Bazaar

When: Wednesdays in April, 2024, from 6 a.m. to noon, and Sundays from 7 a.m. to noon

Where: 34 Quaker Meetinghouse Road, Sandwich

It's time again for the oldest and largest flea market on Cape Cod!

The Sandwich Bazaar takes place Wednesdays and Sundays from April to October and hosts vendors with everything from local produce to hand-crafted jewelry to organic dog treats.

April Events at Cape Cod National Seashore

When: Throughout the month of April, 2024

Looking for something fun to do with the kids? Cape Cod National Seashore goes all out with special programs and events for April school vacation week and beyond!

Here's just a sampling of what might be offered at the National Seashore in April 2024 ...

  • Family Scavenger Hunts
  • Whale Walks at Herring Cove Beach
  • Touch-a-Truck Family Event
  • Shooting Stars by the Sea

And of course, there's the ever-popular "Junior Ranger" program where the kids are invited to complete Junior Ranger booklet activities and participate in an award ceremony.

Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra - "Better Together"

When: April 6 & 7, 2024, performances Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.

Where: Barnstable Performing Arts Center, 744 Main Street, Hyannis, MA

Champagne and caviar. Sand and sea. Music … and joy. Who doesn't love a perfect pairing?!

Better Together captures the essence of perfect pairings and the magic they inspire, as CCSO shares the stage with the incredible Naughton Sisters - a twin sister piano duo captivating audiences throughout the globe with their artistry and mystical connection.

The program culminates with Bartók’s epic symphonic work, widely considered the “Mount Everest” for musicians and a true showcase of Cape Symphony’s power and virtuosity.

The Adventure Park - Opening Weekend

When: April 12, 2024, 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; April 13, 2024, 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; April 14, 2024, 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Where: The Adventure Park at Heritage Museums & Gardens,  67 Grove Street, Sandwich, MA

Broadway on the Bay: Cape Cod Springtacular

When: April 12, 2024. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., performance at 7:00 p.m.

Where: Wequassett Resort & Golf Club, 2173 MA-28, Harwich, MA

NYC Broadway stars, Lindsay Heather Pearce (Wicked, Mean Girls, The Glee Project) and Nicholas Connell, (Titanique), are performing this month's "Broadway on the Bay: Cape Cod Springtacular".

Set along the shores of Pleasant Bay, the live performance will span 90 minutes and explore themes of reflection, empowerment, and new beginnings as Pearce sings through the looking glass of her journey from Hollywood starlet to Broadway beltress. The one-night show will be held in Wequassett's Grand Pavilion.

Whale Watch Cruises - Opening Day

When: April 13, 2024, multiple departure times

Where: From Provincetown Harbor

Tickets:  $75 adults; $65 seniors; $55 kids

Whale watching officially gets underway this week as Dolphin Fleet opens their 2024 season.

Although it'll still be a little chilly on the water in April, the boats' cabins are climate controlled. So you'll be plenty comfy.

And whales don't mind the cold water temps. They'll be out there "putting on the feed bag" and showing off for you!

*FYI: Looking for a private whale watch charter? They're starting soon, too.

CMNH School Vacation Week Special Programs

When: April 15 - 21, 2024 during Museum hours

Where: Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, 869 Main Street, Brewster MA

Admission:  Varies by event

Do you have an animal lover in the family? Or maybe a budding scientist? Cape Cod Museum of Natural History has special April school vacation week events just for them!

This year's events include guided family field walks; Mixology: Chemistry for Kids; performances by Trevor the Juggler; screening of the film "Octopus: Making Contact"; and an awe-inspiring, inflatable gray whale to walk through and explore from the inside out!

*Note: Reservations required for some events.

Build a Fairy House!

When: April 16, 2024, 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (rain date April 18)

Where: Fuller Farm, 995 Rt. 149, Marstons Mills, MA

Admission: $25, includes building materials and refreshments (pre-registration required)

Does a special child in your life love fairy tales and nature? This event is for them!

Children aged 7-11 are invited to Fuller Farm to spend the morning creating their own magical Fairy House.

Kids will be guided into the forest to collect materials, then head back to the barn to construct their Fairy Houses. (You can bring some supplies if you like, but remember when collecting to take only items that have fallen to the ground, not ones that are currently attached to plants or trees!)

Refreshments will be provided. Come dressed for a fun time in the great outdoors!

*Note: This is one of many wonderful programs offered by Barnstable Land Trust during the month of April in celebration of Earth Month 2024.

Outermost Contra Dance

When: April 19, 2024, 6:30 p.m.

Where: Wellfleet Preservation Hall, 335 Main Street, Wellfleet, MA

Cost: $15 regular admission; $10 for ages 30 or younger; $5 for students (with ID)

Put on your dancin' shoes for this fun event at Preservation Hall!

Contra dancing is the older cousin to the square dance. No fancy footwork needed – if you can walk, you can dance!  (All the dances are taught and called. If you're new to contra dance, be sure to get in on the early dances for the basic moves.)

Everyone is welcome at this family friendly event, from total beginners to expert dancers. Bring a partner, or come solo. There are plenty of friendly people in this welcoming dance community!

Heritage Museums & Gardens - Opening Day

When: April 20, 2024

Where: Heritage Museums & Gardens, 67 Grove St., Sandwich, MA

Opening day at Heritage is always a welcome event - a sure sign that winter is finally in our rear-view mirror.

Nothing says "Welcome to Spring!" like a few hours spent wandering through Heritage's many acres of gardens, alive in colorful, early-season blooms.

Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to visit the gallery buildings filled with fabulous American Art, classic vintage autos, and special exhibitions. The kids will have a blast exploring Hidden Hollow, too!

Mad Hatter Tea Party

When: April 20, 2024, first seating at 1:30 p.m., second seating at 3:30 p.m.

Where: Atwood Museum, 347 Stage Harbor Rd., Chatham, MA

This whimsical afternoon event celebrates the opening of Atwood Museum's new exhibit, "A Place to Hang Your Hat!".

Don your best springtime, tea party apparel and come indulge in delectable scones, delicate sandwiches, a variety of teas, and delightful camaraderie.

After sitting and sipping, the tea party will end with a quick tour of the Museum's new exhibit featuring historic, fanciful hats. Attendees will leave with a small token by which to remember the festivities!

Dinner For/With a Veteran

When: April 21, 2024, 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Where: Cape Cod Beer, 1336 Phinneys Lane, Hyannis MA

Tickets: $30, includes dinner for you and a veteran

Cape Cod Beer has teamed up with Veteran’s Lunch Box and Cape and Islands Veterans Outreach Center to host dinner with a veteran and thank them for their service!

The dinner will feature an all-you-can-eat pasta buffet from Veteran’s Lunch Box, including spaghetti, meatballs, garlic sticks, and salad. Also, Cape Cod Beer will offer craft beer, wine, cider, specialty cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages for purchase.

Bring a veteran as your "plus one". Or you can choose to donate your veteran meal, and the Cape and Island Veterans Outreach Center will invite veterans in the community to come and enjoy a meal.

Not able to attend? You can still contribute to this worthy cause by purchasing a meal for a vet for $15.

All proceeds from this event will support the Cape and Islands Veterans Outreach Center which provides essential services and supportive programs to veterans, aiding in their reintegration into family and community life.

A Gathering of Blossoms

When: April 22, 2024, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Where: Pelham House Restaurant, 14 Sea Street, Dennis Port, MA

Tickets: $50 per person

Meet Kate Formichella and Diane Grieco from Flora Chella Design and watch them demonstrate their wild, elegant floral style!

Have questions about gardening and flower arranging? Ask Kate and Diane about soil health, irrigation, maintenance, vase life, annuals, perennials, sun and shade, container planting, pest control, and more.

There will be a raffle of the arrangements created that day and for some of Kate’s favorite dahlia tubers. There will also be door prizes and refreshments.

All proceeds from this event go towards CCHA Orleans' $1M pledge for Cancer Services at Cape Cod Hospital.

International Marconi Day Celebration

When: April 27, 2024, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Chatham Marconi Maritime Center's Marconi-RCA Wireless Museum, 847 Orleans Road, North Chatham, MA

Come visit the Marconi-RCA Wireless Museum as we celebrate Guglielmo Marconi's 150th Birthday and the huge part that he played in the invention of radio.

Watch the modern-day "brass pounders" of Chatham Marconi's affiliated WCC Amateur Radio Association participate in the International Marconi Day radio event.

Lower Cape residents: show your driver's license with a local address, and your group will be admitted for FREE!

Mother Daughter Jewelry Making

When: April 27, 2024, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Where: Sunset Artist Studios, 3 Main Street, Unit 10, Eastham, MA

Sunset Artist Studios is hosting a special Mother & Daughter jewelry-making class, designed for beginners aged eight and up!

Together, you'll craft matching bracelets, chokers, rings, and anklets, choosing stones that hold special meanings and incorporating freshwater pearls symbolizing self-love. This hands-on workshop promises a memorable bonding experience, perfect for mothers, daughters, and friends alike. Create, connect, and cherish these moments of creativity and togetherness.

Dine, Dance, Donate (for Great Causes!)

Join Stephanie Viva from Lemonadio radio for a fun evening of giving and celebration at this Dine, Dance, Donate event!

This special gathering aims to raise crucial funds for three remarkable local charities: Stargardtians, Tommy's Place, and Kind Hearts for Kids.

Together, we can all make a difference while enjoying a night of dining, dancing, and charity fundraising. Buffet style, silent auction, 50/50 raffle, and cash bar.

Every ticket purchased and every bid placed will directly contribute to the invaluable work carried out by these wonderful organizations.
