Question: Have been to Brewster where mussels were plentiful. How about Chatham? Other towns?
Please help! Thanks!

Dee's Reply: Hi Gerri - You're definitely in line for the "Stump Dee" question of the year award!

I have no idea where the best musseling is on Cape Cod. ("Musseling" ... hmmm. Is that even a word???)

Do some towns have a larger mussel population than others? Probably. But that's just a pure guess on my part.

The only thing I can think to suggest is that you call the shell fishing license office in the various towns you're considering, and ask about harvesting mussels from the town's waters.

The shellfish officers in each town will undoubtedly have in-depth knowledge about the state of the mussel population in their town.

Will any of them be able to give you a town-by-town mussel population comparison? I don't know, but it can't hurt to ask.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

Best Regards,

P.S. You'll find the contact info for the towns' shellfish license offices here.
