Lodging on the Water

by Kevin
(Buffalo NY)

Question: Any of the hotels on the water? Looking for a place where we can walk down to the water, preferably the ocean. Thanks.

Dee's Reply; Hi Kevin - You've asked about lodging "preferably on the ocean". If you're specifically looking for a hotel that's just steps away from the Atlantic Ocean, that's going to limit your choices somewhat. A lot, actually.

Most of the beachfront on our Atlantic Ocean coastline is still in its natural state; and it's been that way since the early 1960s when the Cape Cod National Seashore came into being. As federally protected land, no new commercial development has been allowed there.

The closest you're going to get to beachfront lodging on the Atlantic Ocean is somewhere like Nauset Knoll Motor Lodge in East Orleans.

Nauset Knoll is a throwback to the old days of the Cape. It's a place to get away and unwind in a breathtaking setting overlooking the Ocean.

Nauset Knoll Motor Lodge

For lodging on the other bodies of saltwater surrounding the Cape (Cape Cod Bay, Nantucket Sound, Vineyard Sound, and Buzzards Bay), there are lots of waterfront and waterview hotels, motels and inns to choose from. Plus hundreds of vacation rental houses, cottages, and condos, many that are right on the beachfront or just a short walk from the water.

If you'll let me know what towns you're considering, and what style of lodging you prefer, I'll be happy to get back to you with more waterfront accommodation suggestions.

Best Regards,

Dee
