4th of July Parades
Question: We will be staying on Pleasant Lake Ave in Harwich for the week of 4th of July. Where would you suggest seeing a local town parade? I see just about every town has one. Thanks.
Hi Judy - You're right. There are lots of Independence Day parades on the Cape! We're a patriotic bunch around here, and we love a parade! ;-)
The nearest parade to you will be Chatham's. The Chatham parade is one of the longest-running Independence Day parades in the USA. It's a wonderful family-friendly event that epitomizes Small Town America!Chatham Independence Day Parade
For something a little different, Hyannis adds to the festivities with a boat parade in the harbor. It's great fun to see all the boats trimmed out in red, white, and blue, winding their way slowly around the inner harbor!Hyannis 4th of July Events
Chatham is right next door to Harwich, and Main Street in Hyannis is only about 12 miles from where you'll be staying. So either (or both) should be convenient for you.
Oh, and don't forget the fireworks
! Hyannis' fireworks show is scheduled for Saturday the 4th ... and the town of Orleans' fireworks are set for the evening of the 5th at Rock Harbor.
Orleans is a pretty quick drive from Harwich, too. About 20 minutes. Just be sure to go early. From mid-afternoon on, parking spots are tough to find near Rock Harbor on fireworks night.
Have tons of fun, and enjoy your visit to the Cape!
