New High Speed Ferry Service: Boston-Martha's Vineyard

by Dee Young
(Affordable Cape Cod Vacations)

I saw a news release today titled: "New Boston - Martha's Vineyard High-Speed Ferry Service".

That headline really caught my attention, because I know it's a long, and sometimes not very pleasant, boat ride from Boston to the Vineyard.

I couldn't imagine what ferry company would take on that challenge, or how they planned to accomplish it.

Reading beyond the catchy headline, I found the answer ...

This new service, provided by SeaStreakUSA, is actually a combo deal. It's an express motor coach (bus) ride from Boston to New Bedford MA, connecting with the high-speed ferry from New Bedford to Martha's Vineyard. (Now, that makes more sense :-)

The Details

SeaStreak's new Boston-Martha's Vineyard ferry service will run from May 24th through October 14, 2013.

The motor coach will depart from/return to South Station in Boston. The ferry departs from/returns to the New Bedford MA ferry pier.

* Travel time between Boston and Martha's Vineyard will be about 2 1/2 hours.

* On weekdays, there'll be 3 scheduled departures/returns.

* On weekends, there'll be 2 scheduled departures/returns.

Fares

As of this afternoon (April 7th), SeaStreak has not yet published the fares for this route on their website.

I'll call SeaStreak administrative office first thing Monday morning to see what I can find out on pricing.

Please check back here tomorrow for my update ...

Best Regards,

Dee

UPDATE: April 8, 2013

Children's fares apply to ages 12 and under.

Boston to Martha Vineyard Package
by: Ken T

Thanks Dee for your article. I went on Seastreak site and notice they had routes to New Bedford then a person would have to pick up a ferry ride from there. Is there a package where a person pays one fee for the bus ride and ferry to Martha's Vineyard.
Thank you for your time,
Kenneth T

Dee's Reply: Hi Kenneth!

The only Boston-Martha's Vineyard package tour I know of is this one offered by Viator:
